How to Record Your Screen on Android

Sometimes a screenshot isn't enough — you need to capture movement, demonstrate an app workflow, or record gameplay. Android's built-in screen recorder makes this easy, and this guide covers everything from setup to saving your recording.

What You Need Before Starting

  • An Android device running Android 10 or higher for the native screen recorder.
  • Sufficient storage space (screen recordings can be large files).
  • Optional: headphones or a quiet environment if recording with audio.

Method 1: Android Built-In Screen Recorder (Android 10+)

Google added a native screen recorder to Android 10, and most manufacturers include it in Quick Settings:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel.
  2. Swipe down again to see all tiles, or tap the pencil/edit icon to find hidden tiles.
  3. Locate Screen Record and add it to your Quick Settings if it's not already there.
  4. Tap Screen Record to start. A prompt will ask if you want to record audio and show touches on screen.
  5. Choose your preferences and tap Start. A 3-second countdown begins.
  6. To stop recording, pull down the notification shade and tap Stop.

Your recording is saved to Gallery > Screen Recordings or Videos > Screen Recordings.

Method 2: Samsung Screen Recorder (Galaxy Devices)

Samsung's version of the screen recorder has extra features:

  • Sound options: No audio, Media sounds only, or Media + Microphone.
  • Front camera overlay: Show yourself in a bubble while recording — great for tutorials.
  • Video quality settings: 720p, 1080p, or higher depending on your device.

Access it the same way — through the Quick Settings panel.

Method 3: Third-Party Screen Recorder Apps

If your Android version doesn't support native recording, or you need advanced features, consider these well-regarded apps from the Google Play Store:

How to Record Screen With Audio

To record internal audio (what's playing on screen) plus your voice:

  1. When starting screen record, select Media and Microphone in the audio options.
  2. Note: some apps and streaming services block internal audio recording due to copyright restrictions.

Tips for Better Screen Recordings

  • Enable "Show Touches" so viewers can see where you're tapping.
  • Use Do Not Disturb mode to prevent notifications from interrupting your recording.
  • Lower screen brightness slightly to reduce battery drain during long recordings.
  • Trim your video before sharing — most Gallery apps have a built-in trimmer.
  • Check storage before recording — a 10-minute 1080p recording can take 300MB or more.

Where Are Screen Recordings Saved?

Screen recordings are saved to:

  • Gallery app — usually in a "Screen Recordings" or "Movies" album.
  • File Manager — under Internal Storage > Movies or Internal Storage > DCIM/Screen Recordings.

Screen recording is one of the most powerful tools on your Android device — whether you're creating content, documenting a bug, or teaching someone how to use an app, you now have everything you need to do it well.
